Military historian Bill Howard of Delmar, NY will be appearing for an author event and book signing at the Northshire Bookstore (424 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY ) on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 7:00 pm. Howard’s new book, “The Battle of Ball's Bluff: All the Drowned Soldiers,” published by The History Press, tells the story of the ill-fated scouting expedition that took place near Leesburg, Virginia, which quickly escalated into a full scale battle resulting in a significant loss of Union lives. A subsequent Congressional investigation had far-reaching impacts on the military and political conduct of the Civil War.
Howard will present a brief program describing the Battle and its aftermath, and will be available to answer questions and sign copies of his book. Howard is a native of Delmar, NY and a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School and Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. He was a Herbert H. Lehman Fellow at the Nelson Rockefeller Graduate School of Public Affairs (SUNY Albany) and has published extensively on military, social, and political issues. His most recent books are: "What the RAF Airman Took to War," (Shire, 2015), and The Civil War Memoirs of William T. Levey (Northshire Press, 2007). From 2011-2015, Howard also authored a popular series of 45 articles in the Albany Times Union that highlighted the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.
